Beacon Bible Camp is a non-profit organization that exists to provide an adventurous Christian camping experience where people, particularly youth, can be encouraged to respond to the gospel of the Lord Jesus and to grow in their Christian life.

2021 Camp Crew

Camp Crew

Beacon is eager to welcome campers back in person, and to welcome campers, we need staff!

To make sure that we are in line with expected government regulations, we are looking for a totally different kind of staff team in 2021. In fact, it’s going to be so different that we’re giving this year’s staff team a whole new name. Read further to learn more about our 2021 Camp Crew!

This year, we are looking for a full team of summer-long staff so that we can observe COVID safety protocols. A consistent summer-long team will be trained in running excellent programming, providing fantastic meals, and maintaining a beautiful facility, all while upholding regulations around proper distancing and sanitization. This also allows us to be accountable to camper families regarding staff exposure to COVID.

A consistent team means consistent roles. In the past, program and kitchen duties were ones that could be done for a single week at a time. Now we are seeking Program Staff, Kitchen Staff and Office/Media staff who will remain in their roles all summer alongside our typical Maintenance Staff and Lifeguarding Staff.

Another important note is age. Camp Crew members need to be 18 years old (or older) before June 30, 2021 so that the entire team is made up of legal adults. And when we say “or older”, we truly mean it! We would welcome interested candidates of any age to apply, because Beacon can benefit so much from a staff with a diversity of age and experience, especially in this strange summer.

All Camp Crew members will share sleeping accommodations with at least one other staff member of the same gender. These accommodations with have their own bathroom facilities and common lounge to provide Camp Crew with a place to relax and participate in community while maintaining distance from campers. The constant presence of community can be a challenge, but it is also what makes being Camp Crew so unique and unforgettable. The staff community that develops will create lifelong memories together!

Despite so many things being different, the reasons why we think you should come to Beacon as a Camp Crew member remain the same! Here’s why we think it’s so awesome:

  • Skill Development: Learning to use power tools, getting waterfront lifeguarding experience or managing the inventory of the tuck shop are just a few of the new skills you’ll be able to put on your resume. (Honestly: a summer internship has nothing on one summer working at a summer camp - just ask the New York Times)

  • Spiritual Growth: Beacon is committed to investing in the spiritual walk of its Camp Crew team. Priority is placed on making time in the busy schedule to spend time individually and as a group in the study and discussion of God’s Word. You will be encouraged to see even the simplest daily tasks in light of your relationship with God.

  • Incredible Friendships: Serving as a Camp Crew member is an intense community experience! Being with your team day in and day out gives you the opportunity to develop deep friendships and godly character traits like kindness and patience.

Excited to apply for Camp Crew? We're glad! Please make sure that you read through the following FAQ before you apply, and contact Alyssa LaRocque (staff@beaconbiblecamp.com) if you have any questions.

How old do I have to be to apply?

A Camp Crew member must be 18 years old by June 30th. This is just the minimum age; we encourage people of any age to consider applying.

What time commitment is required?

We need our Camp Crew for the whole summer. This year, the commitment is from Friday June 25, 2021 to (at least) Saturday August 21, 2021. This accounts for two weeks of staff training involving role orientation, Skills Camp courses, and team building. Camper sessions will begin on Sunday, July 11 and run for at least six weeks.

No online training will be required this year as all necessary information will be communicated in person at camp.

What will my schedule look like?

Schedules will depend on your role but will fill most of the daytime hours between breakfast and dinner. Some after-dinner chores or programs may apply. Breaks will be scheduled accordingly. There will be two main types of camp session at Beacon this summer - family camp and day camp. Family camps will start on Sundays and end on Fridays. Day camps will start on Mondays and end on Fridays. Saturdays are the Camp Crew's official day off and will include a worship service in the evening.

How does COVID change the Camp Crew experience?

This is a hard question to answer, since we aren't 100% sure ourselves! Regulations change regularly and we are always updating our practices to reflect health unit and government requirements. However, we know that as staff, we will need to follow current physical distancing, masking and sanitizing rules when interacting with campers. It means that our ability to leave camp property or receive guests will be limited. It means that there may be rules about how we are permitted to gather as staff. You should be prepared to comply with whatever rules are required. But remember too that we're all in this together, and we'll figure out how to make the absolute best of the situation!

Is this a paid position?

Camp Crew positions are volunteer-based. Those who are accepted as Camp Crew receive honorariums through the Friends of Beacon (FOB) charity. FOB also comes alongside Camp Crew members to provide information and resources for those who are willing to do their own fundraising. More details will be provided to those who are accepted.

When can I apply?

Applications for Camp Crew are available starting February 12, 2021. Interviews will be arranged and conducted following submission.
