One of Beacon's greatest blessings is our amazing staff. To celebrate them, and introduce you to who they are, we feature them on our blog: Staff Saturdays!
Staff Names: Gaye Landgraff and Mary Kingsbury
Camp Names: Carrots (Gaye) and MOM (Mary)
Lives: Both live in Mississauga
How long have you been attending/serving at Beacon?
Gaye: Since 1972
Mary: Since 1973
What are some roles you have played at camp?
Gaye: I was a counsellor in 1972, about four months after I became a follower of Christ, and with no FLIGHT training back then! I have also been kitchen help, teacher at Sr. Girls, co-director of Friendship Family Camp, and raker of leaves at work days.
Mary: I have been a director (most challenging), counsellor, lifeguard, head cook (favourite), teacher, and RN.
What are some ways that you stay connected with camp now?
Gaye: I pray for the campers and all staff,throughout the summer
Mary: Committed pray-er. Messaging staff and trying to keep up with them.
What is an interesting fact about yourself?
Gaye: I dance and sing to crazy rock music in the privacy of my living room!
Mary: I am trying to become more tech literate (lost cause).
What message would you give to staff serving at camp this summer?
Gaye: Pray lots , and ask people to pray for specific items. Keep close to the Lord by reading his word, and meeting with other believers. Rehearse how you would present the gospel to someone
Mary: Please contact those of us who will commit to pray for you! Let us know when you will be serving so we can pray for you. If you're participating in Skills Camp we will definitely pray for you. Directors, keep us updated with praises and concerns before, during and after camp. On-site and summer staff, the same! I can be reached by text, email or facebook.
What message would you give those who have served in the past at camp?
Gaye: Thanks for serving us at Beacon!!!!!! And keep on keeping on with the Lord!!!!!!!
Mary: Stay involved! Ask God what that would look like.
