A Week Into Family Camp Registration!

Luke LaRocque

We’re a week into our Summer 2021 registration and we’re so glad to see so many names on our lists for camp this summer!

Normally, we wouldn’t do a whole lot of of “updating” about our registration numbers, but in this strange year, it’s important for everyone to communicate well with each other! So - here’s what we’re looking at right now, and where we’re headed in the (hopefully near) future.

Family Camps

Like we expected, our family camps shot out of the gate and were super, super popular during our first week of registration:

  • Rolling Thunder: 6 out of 7 family spots filled

  • Forest Glade: 7 out of 7 family spots filled

  • Lofty Mountain: 4 out of 7 family spots filled

  • Gentle Breeze: 7 out of 7 family spots filled

So - from the get-go, it looks like two of our family camps are already full! That’s very exciting if being full is important, but that’s not our focus this summer. Our goal is to welcome as many campers to Beacon this summer as safely possible… which is still the plan.

We don’t know the final regulations that our local health unit and the provincial government will be laying out for us. It’s hard not knowing, and it means that we have to be careful. Part of that “being careful” means opening up fewer family camp and day camp spots than we plan to have this summer.

If you’ve been to a Beacon family camp before, you know that our washroom facilities are generally shared between two or three families, with lots of space for everyone - it’s a lot like a provincial park, and it works really well. We’ve come up with a great plan to keep the washrooms sanitized at regular intervals and stocked with extra cleaning supplies so that each family can feel comfortable as they use them. That being said, we know that guidelines and regulations have to be respected, so until we know exactly what that looks like… we wait.

In the meantime, our strong suggestion is that if you want to attend a certain family camp this summer, register now. If the camp session is already full, get your family on the waitlist, because we expect that waitlist to be opening up, and we will be registering our families in the order that they registered for camp. Our prayer is that we will be able to double the number of families at each camp, which will make it much more like a typical Beacon family camp.

Day Camps

Our two day camps (one in July, one in August) have also gotten off to a great start! Both camps are about 25% full after one week of registration - which is far beyond what we were expecting for this time of year. We know that parents have lots of options for community day camps, so to have campers already committing to be with us is quite exciting!

Like family camps, our plan is to increase the capacity of our day camps when we know more about the official guidelines that will be a part of our summer. So please do register early for these camps as well, as it helps us plan for the future!

We’re holding plans loosely, but ultimately know that God is in complete control - He is a good God, who loves us and wants what’s best for all of us. Whether we are able to see you at camp this summer or not, know that we are thinking of you and praying for you!
